    Annual Star-Studded WPT Invitational

    Mimi RogersDean Cain

    March 11, 2005

    San Antonio Express-News

The WORLD POKER TOUR's(TM) (WPT) annual star-studded WPT Invitational today at the Commerce Casino brought out Hollywood's new crop of poker aficionados including such personalities as Ray Romano, Camryn Manheim, Jon Favreau, the Masterson Brothers Danny and Chris, Brad Garrett, Dean Cain, Mimi Rogers, Mena Suvari, Ed Asner, Norm MacDonald, Lou Diamond Phillips, Stephen Collins and 30 others. While the last celebrity "survivor" will take home a $5,000 donation for charity, there is plenty more at stake for the 236 total players in the tournament that concludes tomorrow -- a $200,000 prize pool and a seat at the WPT World Championship in April. The winner will also receive the elegant and prestigious Argentium(TM) Silver trophy, designed especially for the WPT Invitational.

While the fans along the rail ogled the celebrities, the celebrities were in awe of their favorite poker stars...many of whom have made their names on WPT telecasts. Seated alongside the stars were such poker luminaries at Doyle Brunson, Layne Flack, Jennifer Harman, Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke, Scotty Nguyen, Phil Laak, Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth, T.J. Cloutier, Gus Hansen and numerous other champions.

Said Lou Diamond Phillips: "I think the THE WORLD POKER TOUR was the fuse that helped poker just blow up. I know a lot of kitchen and home game players who now see the strategy and yell out the answers. It's like watching Jeopardy on TV."

The first celebrities to exit the tournament and tell their bad beat stories were former Los Angeles Ram superstar Deacon Jones, followed by Rossi Morreale (Junkyard Mega Wars), Erik Palladino (ER), Dean Cain (Superman), James Woods, Ed Asner, Ty Treadway (SoapNet), Chris Rich (Reba), Sarah Gilbert (ER) and Macauley (MAC) Culkin.

Other celebrities in the chips were Jennifer Tilly, Laura Prepon (That '70s Show), Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: Next Generation), Adrian Young (No Doubt), David Sutcliffe (The Gilmore Girls), Gabe Kaplan (Welcome Back Kotter), Hill Harper (CSI:NY), Jeremy London (7th Heaven), comedian Kathy Griffin, Kelly Packard (Baywatch, Ripley's Believe It or Not), supermodel Natalia Vodianova, Skeet Ulrich (Scream), Tanya Roberts (That '70s Show), Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do), Traci Bingham, (Baywatch) and Willie Garson (Sex and the City).

The WPT Invitational's Final Table will be taped for the WPT's much-anticipated Third Season of high-drama, high-stakes poker play on the Travel Channel. The new season will air every Wednesday night beginning March 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The show that reinvented poker as a televised spectator sport, WORLD POKER TOUR has made stars of the poker players who have captured million-dollar purses on the Tour. Since their WPT Final Table appearances, they are frequently spotted in airports and restaurants, and pressed for autographs by fans, just like their celebrity counterparts. In Season Three, the WPT is averaging a "millionaire a month" with its record-breaking prize pool of approximately $70 million.

"The WPT Invitational has become a hot Hollywood ticket," says Steve Lipscomb, founder and President of WPT Enterprises (Nasdaq:WPTE). "It's a fan favorite, too... one of the WPT's highest rated shows each year. We embrace and share the stars' love of poker. It's great fun to see many of them hang around after they have lost their chips to watch and learn from the pros."

Fans may view the Final Table on Feb. 24, with seating available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The tournament will begin at 3:00 p.m., but it is suggested that fans arrive by 2 p.m. to ensure a spot. The Commerce Casino, the country's largest poker room, is located at 6131 East Telegraph Road in Commerce, just five minutes from downtown Los Angeles off the Washington exit of the 5 Freeway.

    Poker and the Kentucky Derby

    Poker and The Kentucky Derby

While the Kentucky Derby is just 2 months away horse betting fans and poker players team up to help artist launch company and Expo at the International Artexpo, NY.
World Series of Poker Inspires Pals to Gamble on Artist & Friend - Kim Luttrell Launches Company and Exhibition at the International Artexpo, NY

A group of Kentucky high school friends are coming together across the country to invest in and promote friend and artist, Kim Luttrell. After seeing an article in The Wall Street Journal about a patent attorney who won the World Series of Poker and funded his entry fee by selling shares of his stake in the tournament, friends were inspired to buy shares to form Luttrell Fine Art, LLC and fund the artists entry into the International Artexpo in New York to be held March 3-6. Friends are hoping to capitalize on the talent they see in Luttrell's work through this unprecedented business model in the art arena and gain a piece of the growing $60 billion dollar art industry.

New York (PRWEB) March 4, 2005 -- A group of Kentucky high school friends are coming together across the country over 20 years later to invest in and promote friend and artist, Kim Luttrell. As a result, Luttrell has launched her new company, Luttrell Fine Art, LLC, and is exhibiting her work this weekend at the International Artexpo at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, March 3-6, 2005. Art expo jump-started the careers of some of the finest American artists of the 20th Century, one of them being Andy Warhol. Luttrell will be at booth #2812 throughout the show.

Luttrell attended the Artexpo as a spectator for the past four years and knew she needed to be an exhibitor in order to take her career to the next level. After conducting research with various artists, she knew the results were promising. However, the financial commitment was daunting. The right amount of work, appropriate set up and suitable promotional tools seemed prohibitive to Luttrell.

Luttrell's high school friend, fellow New Yorker and avid collector, Amy Wilson, also attended the 2004 International Artexpo and felt this was the next step for the artist. Wilson read an article that appeared on June 1, 2004, in The Wall Street Journal about a patent attorney who won the World Series of Poker. This savvy poker player funded his entry fee by selling "shares" of his stake in the tournament. After his big win, investors were paid a percentage of his winnings. Wilson was inspired that she could establish something similar for Luttrell to exhibit at the Artexpo.

On a trip home to Henderson, Kentucky, shortly following the article, Wilson informally presented the concept to friends and high school classmates of Luttrell who enthusiastically encouraged and began the venture. Five-hundred $100 shares were sold to launch Luttrell.
Beyond their financial investments, several contributed their professional services for additional stock. The long-time Kentucky-based friends have joined with some of Luttrell's oldest collectors in New York and Connecticut, consisting of investment bankers, real estate investors and company presidents.

"I have realized that many people come in and out of your life and the people you want around you are those you can trust," said Luttrell. "I am excited about taking my work more broadly worldwide with the help and support of those most true to me."

The 39-year-old Luttrell is not unfamiliar to bankrolling her art career with the help of her Kentucky friends and associates. In 1983, as Luttrell was graduating from high school, she created a series of works depicting the Kentucky Derby and horse racing. Luttrell ingeniously sold these as prints to fund her college education at the Ringling School of Fine Arts, in Sarasota, Florida.

Luttrell's body of work includes painted works on paper mounted to canvas that presents an appearance of motion. Additionally each section within the piece occasionally reveals an isolated scene. Luttrell has also produced labor intensive woven paintings that are a tribute to the handicraft and age-old tradition of weaving used by early 20th century settlement workers from her home state of Kentucky. Along with these latest works, are her abstract forms using paint chips which hold the viewer's attention by creating shapely waves of infinitesimal colors and compelling intensity.

Because Luttrell remains connected to her roots in Kentucky, she will be showing some works at the International Artexpo depicting scenes from the state. Luttrell recently developed a series of etchings, photo-etchings, lithographs and serigraphs at the famed Arts Students League in New York to exhibit at the Artexpo. She will be premiering her works on giclee prints as well.
Luttrell moved to New York City in 1991 with $600 and a dream. Once in New York, Luttrell evolved into a full-time career of creating original mixed-media art and began by selling her art on the streets of Manhattan neighborhoods to build her notable clientele. Since 1998, Luttrell has achieved numerous solo and group shows throughout New York that has generated a notable following; selling her work for as much as $32,000.

"For an artist, it takes a little more determination to get to the places they want to go," says Luttrell. "But knowing that on a small scale, on the streets of New York where there is so much competition, I was able to survive, allows me to feel hopeful that I will be able to make it in today's art world. Certainly, time will tell, but I remain steadfast in reaching my dreams with the support of so many that believe in me."

Luttrell Fine Art, LLC. Kim Luttrell creates original mixed-media art using a vivid palette, conspicuous textures and arresting themes. Her works are displayed in corporate and private collections throughout the U.S., Holland, Israel, Australia, Argentina, England, Brazil, China, Japan and Republic of Guinea and hang among other well-known artists such as Dali, Picasso, Winston Churchill and Anthony Quinn. Notable collectors range from Anna Strasberg, widow of renowned actor and teacher, Lee Strasberg, of the Theatre Institute in New York and California to Kentucky's own Academy Award winning, Patricia Neal. Luttrell has participated in solo and group shows in New York and was a featured artist in a national publication show house, the House & Garden Havemeyer Mansion in New Jersey. An Australian filmmaker also made Luttrell the topic of an independent documentary which has been recently added to the permanent archives of the Library and Research Center of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. For more information: http://www.luttrellfineart.com/ .

International Artexpo, New York. The only U.S. based international event connecting artists, galleries, and art publishers with more than 40,000 trade buyers and collectors. The Artexpo strengthens business relationships and enables artists to explore new market opportunities with qualified buyers from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and other regions. Gambling Industry Professionals Convene to Support Online Poker Bill

    Greg Raymer

    March 9, 2005

Numerous online gaming industry officials, professional players and legislators have convened in North Dakota's capital city, Bismarck, to support a bill that is currently under review by the state legislature to license and regulate online poker for the state's residence. No other state currently holds such legislation.

Industry lobbyists include CEO of the UK-based Sportingbet Nigel Payne, CEO of Card Player Magazine's online site, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman as well as state legislator Frank Catania, the former director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement who currently serves as independent director of online gaming regulatory body eCOGRA. Even eCOGRA itself issued a statement in support for the online poker bill. A North Dakota Native, 2004 World Series of Poker winner Greg Raymer also came to lobby for the cause.

The bill has already passed in North Dakota's House of Representatives and expects a verdict from the state Senate today. Supporters of the bill say that it will allow authorities to regulate and tax internet poker. With or without this legislation, the industry is likely to continue to grow, however, the legislation will help industry professionals better prevent problems associated with gambling.

Poker champ among lobbying contingent for poker measure

    Greg Raymer

    March 8, 2005

    By DALE WETZEL
    Associated Press Writer

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The winner of the 2004 World Series of Poker, who is a Minot native, is among a contingent of poker industry officials who are lobbying for a bill to make North Dakota the first state to license Internet poker sites.

Greg Raymer's father was posted to the Minot Air Force Base when he was born in 1964. However, he spent less than a year in North Dakota before his father left the Air Force and returned to his hometown of Lansing, Mich., Raymer said.

"I have the North Dakota blood in that sense, but I can't say that I know the state in terms of my childhood," Raymer said.

Raymer spoke at a news conference organized by Rep. Jim Kasper, R-Fargo, who is sponsoring legislation to authorize state licensing and regulation of Internet poker sites.

A resident of Stonington, Conn., and a former biotechnology patent attorney for Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company, Raymer won the World Series of Poker last year. The annual Las Vegas event drew more than 2,500 players last April, and Raymer's victory earned him a $5 million prize, paid in cash.

No U.S. state licenses Internet poker sites, and a group of industry officials and experts said Monday that North Dakota could reap a financial windfall if the state is the first to take the plunge. The Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on the legislation Tuesday.

Several officials, including Frank Catania, an attorney and former top New Jersey gambling regulator, and Patrick O'Brien, a lawyer in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and former U.S. customs agent, disputed U.S. Justice Department statements that Internet gambling is illegal.

"It's very easy (for the Justice Department) to write a letter, but it's something else to get into court and defend that letter," O'Brien said.

Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, an attorney who is an owner of Card Player magazine and chief executive officer of the poker Web site CardPlayer.com, said she believes poker is a game of skill, rather than gambling.

Raymer agreed, although he said "luck is a huge element" in poker. He played poker as a part-time professional for a dozen years before winning the World Series, and he never had a losing year, although he had stretches where he lost more than he won, Raymer said.

"I know plenty of other people out there who have supported themselves just from playing poker for long periods of time," Raymer said. "Clearly, if it was a game of just luck, which you can say about things like roulette, craps and slot machines, they could not have made a living for all that period of time by playing poker, because they're not going to stay lucky for decades."

    March 7, 2005

ESPN, the network home to the World Series of Poker has entered into competition with online poker sites by launching its own online poker tournament, which will send one player to Harrah's 2005 WSOP. ESPN's new offering constitutes the first time a major television network has directly involved itself in the online poker industry.

A number of internet poker rooms, including Party Poker and Poker Stars, are offering tournaments and promotions giving away seats at the WSOP, and now ESPN is giving one player such a chance with its The 11-week Degree(R) All-In Poker Challenge. The tournament also offers a number of runner-up prizes, which include a whole slew of poker paraphernalia.

    March 7, 2005

The Women's Poker Network, an organization helping women become active members of the poker community, recently announced it will sponsor a poker cruise this summer. The inaugural Women's Poker Cruise, hosted by Card Player Cruises, will set off to Alaska in August, 2005.

Aside from the usual amenities offered on a luxury cruise, the Women's Poker Cruise will also feature a complete poker room as well as a special tournament event. The Women's Poker Network has plans to turn their inaugural cruise into an annual event.

The organization currently offers opportunities to win the cruise package through online satellite tournaments hosted by JetSet Poker, letting a number of players skip the $4,000 fee. In the works are similar land-based satellite tourneys.
