Convicted video poker operator John "Duffy" Conley has been charged with violating his three-year term of supervised release, which, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons, began Jan. 30, 2004.
In paperwork filed late yesterday, the U.S. attorney's office said "it is apparent that the defendant is, once again, heavily involved in gambling activity ... and that he is associating with known felons."
The document said Mr. Conley's gambling enterprise involves off-shore accounts and large amounts of cash. The government is asking that he be held in jail because it considers him to be a flight risk and danger to the community.
A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab.
Mr. Conley, 42, was convicted in June 1995 for conspiracy and operating an illegal gambling outfit. At one time, the government said, he had hundreds of machines in operation, and several associates were charged along with him.
