The Smooth Call
|
|||
This week I want to talk about the smooth call. It is one of the seldom-used tactics, but is one of the most profitable. You’re on the river and you have a hand. The player in front of you bets and there are two more players to act after you. Most players automatically announce raise and reach for their stack. The following players fold, the bettor calls and you win one extra bet, at the risk of one extra bet. Often if you simply call, at least one and maybe both of the following players will call. You win one or maybe two extra bets at the risk of no additional bets from you. This play doesn’t have to be successful many times for it to be cost effective. Additionally you get additional value to your image. Many opponents will think you were trying to Call-Reraise and will probably play you much softer in the future. So, the next time you find yourself in this situation, don’t reach for chips so quickly. Just slide a call out there. If you have the nuts and the follow on raises, the Call-reraise would definitely be in order, and probably make you two more extra bets. GL |
